In the two years since the 2021 Vaquita survey, the collaboration between Sea Shepherd and the Mexican Government has resulted in a 79% reduction in the illegal fishing activity that has brought the Vaquita to the edge of extinction. To build on that success, Sea Shepherd introduced the M/V Seahorse in January of 2023, the first ship chosen and re-fit specifically for the demands of the campaign, and the Mexican Navy implemented a program with concrete blocks to prevent illegal fishing nets.
